Protecting Kelowna’s Heritage Conservation Area

Help save our character!
Kelowna’s Heritage Conservation Area is one of the city’s most distinctive neighbourhoods. Tree-lined streets, historic homes, walkable green spaces, and a unique sense of place make this community unlike anywhere else in Kelowna.
Today, that character is at risk.
Recent zoning changes by the City of Kelowna (to accommodate the TOA) could allow six-storey developments within and around the Heritage Conservation Area, fundamentally changing the scale and character of the neighbourhood. While growth is important, it should not come at the expense of the heritage, green space, and community identity that residents and visitors value.
Kelowna Heritage Conservation Area Protectors (KHCAP) is a community-led initiative dedicated to raising awareness, sharing information, and advocating for thoughtful planning that respects the neighbourhood’s heritage significance.
We believe that:
- Heritage conservation and responsible growth can coexist.
- Historic neighbourhoods deserve meaningful protection.
- Mature trees and green space are essential community assets.
- Residents should have a voice in decisions that shape their neighbourhood.
- Once heritage character is lost, it cannot be recreated.
Our goal is simple: preserve the unique character of Kelowna’s Heritage Conservation Area for future generations.
